CGC staff has more than 45 years of collective experience in quality control and mix design testing. We were one of the first commercial laboratories in Wisconsin to purchase a gyratory compactor for testing Superpave mixtures. We have provided mix designs for private and county owned producers throughout Wisconsin. In addition, our facilities in Madison and West Allis have provided quality control or quality assurance testing for numerous projects throughout Southern Wisconsin.
Our Madison laboratory is accredited for HMA testing by the AMRL AASHTO Materials Reference Laboratory Testing Assessment Program and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT.) Our laboratory management personnel have achieved HMA MD status which is the highest hot mix asphalt testing classification within the WisDOT Certified Highway Technican Program .
Geotechnical labs use various machines for asphalt testing, including Marshall Stability/Flow Testers, Gyratory Compactors, and Extractors (centrifuge or vacuum) to assess mixture performance and composition, plus instruments like Penetrometers, Viscometers, and Rheometers for binder properties (viscosity, penetration, softening point), and specialized equipment like the Asphalt Mixture Performance Tester (AMPT) for advanced characterization. These machines help evaluate mix design, compaction, aging, and field performance for pavement engineering
